This gallery is mainly landscapes impressions of Southern California north of San Diego. I have also added other locations that I have visited. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Darrel McPherson MA, has studied art at the Indiana University and the University of Memphis. Darrel uses traditional studio techniques adapted to the plein air style in capturing the atmosphere of California. His surreal works are anthromophic projections onto supporting landscapes often reflecting themes of lost mythic events in dreamlike settings. His first shows were abstracted surrealism shown in the greater Chicago area, including the Municipal Gallery of South Bend Indiana and later shows in Memphis including the White Way show with Tom Foster and juried shows at University of Memphis.Currently residing in Escondido California, Darrel has been hard at work in painting the local Southern California landscape found in so much abundance and beauty.Darrel has traveled on occassion to Japan, Mexico, Honduras and Costa Rica with a keen interest in the culture and thoughts that shape other worlds of man. Some of these cultural perceptions appear as well in paintings produced by the artist.
