ARTIST'S STATEMENTAs a Photographer-Artist I am always trying to capture the moment in time when the sensational colors of a sunset cannot be described in words. Or when the antics of a child that bring a smile to your face and a warm glow inside. To capture the image of a sailboat as it glides through the water by an unseen force.I hope for those who see my artwork, feel what I am trying to capture on canvas. The silence, of the wind as it propels the sailboat, the serene sound of water that laps upon the shore and the fragrance of the flower in a garden, and to be drawn into the peaceful images I create.ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHYOn September 11, 2001, I was involved in a life altering motor vehicle collision. Following several surgeries I spent more than a year in recovery and rehabilitation, most of the time in bed or a wheelchair. The long days of boredom and pain I endured in the nursing home were spent rediscovering the beauty of small miracles. Flower arrangements brought to the home became the object of fascination and inspired me to use my camera to capture the micro world within a flower bud. Countless visits to the Mayo Clinic introduced me to the flower creations of Georgia OKeefe and possibilities for my inner artist.Following college I worked in hotel management / consulting and in the food service industry for 25 years. During vacations I visited galleries and museums from Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN, to Washington, D.C. A tour of Europe helped to fill my desire to learn more about the true masters like Pablo, Rembrandt, and Sennelier Art Shop the place where Pastels were originally made. I studied art and photography at the University of Wisconsin River Falls and moved into digital photography by researching and studying other digital artists. Most recently I have learned to create with Pastels, which are nearly pure pigment(s) revealing my most vivid pieces of art.My work has been shown at the Anderson Center of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Red Wing Arts Association Gallery, Red Wing, MN, the Phipps Center, in Hudson, WI, the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota, MN, The Central Wisconsin Cultural Center Wisconsin Rapids, WI The Kelley Gallery in Hudson, WI and at the Abode in Stockholm, WI. I won a Purchase Award at the Art Fair on the Green in La Crosse, in 2004 and 2009. I also won 1st place for my photograph of a Steamboat in the 2004 The Grand Excursion Exhibit - Red Wing, MN. In March 2007 and again in 2009 I received an award from the Altrusa International Club of Oshkosh, WI while participating in their show at the Hilton Garden Inn. You may also find my work displayed in Galleries in Door County as well as other Galleries throughout WI and MN and on the cover of The Red Wing, MN Visitors and Convention Bureau, 2007. Visitors Guide. In 2010 and 2011 my passion to paint has been inundated with requests for portraits of families both current and past and for their most beloved pets.Respectfully,Theodore J Horn
