Maximo Laura is a Peruvian award winning textile artist known worldwide for his hand woven alpaca tapestries that intertwine ancestral Peruvian techniques, symbols, memories and myths with contemporary aesthetics.

Because of his contributions to Peruvian textile history and identity, Laura was recently designated as one of Perus Living Human Treasure, an award given, following UNESCO guidelines, to an artist whose role is to elevate and preserve the culture of its homeland.

Owners of Lauras work include the World Bank in Washington D.C., the UNESCO Headquaters in Paris, the Smithsonians National Museum of the American Indian, the Museum of Iberoamerican Craft in Spain, the Museum of the Americas in Miami, the The Latvian National Museum of Art and the National Museum of Peruvian Culture.
