As a young child I moved from my birthplace in Los Angeles to a little farming community nestled against the western slopes of the Cascade mountains near the Canadian border. My earliest memories are of being just as fascinated by the smallest detail in a wildflower as I was in the beauty of a worn out old shack or weathered tombstone. I saw beauty in the overcast rainy days, a battle between brilliantly green grass and the ever hazu overcast world that would frequently envelop us for weeks. Mine was a world of contrasts and contradictions.I studied illustration, graphic design and photography as a student at William James College, a liberal arts college that emphasized philosophical thinking. There I began pushing the edge of reality with illustrations and hand colored black and white photography however I found both photography and illustration too restrictive to achieve my vision.Today my art reflects the struggle between image and reality. It marries the realism of photography, the imaginative use of painting and imaging techniques, and high tech printing methods. Through this combination I am finally able to project the image I desire of a defined object, somewhere between truth and imagination. My art is available on line and through select galleries in Michigan and Illinois. A list of these galleries as well as exhibitions is available at my website at www.Anntopia.com.
