I made this piece out of tiny torn up pieces of mag. paper. It is a tedious process. I cannot make these collages unless I am experiancing a overwhelming emotion.
Shonna Nelson A Journey To Fame Artist biography Shonna Nelson was born October 19th 1985 in Knoxville Tennessee to Kerri Allred and Sean Nelson, grandparents Cecelia and Jimmy Nelson, great grandparents (Oxford Mississippi) Ida and John Henry Bland. Shonna's great grandmother "Ida Bland" was a famous floral artist in Oxford Mississippi. Shonna took trips from Knoxville to Oxford to visit. It was then she found her destiny "to become a artist" like "Ida Bland". She designed pagent dresses for Shonna to help her win and become a sucess at a early age. She followed through. Shonna wanted to be everything her grandmother was. So Ida helped her through her journey. Ida taught her many things about sewing, and becoming a artist. When times got hard Ida pushed Shonna along the way. Always standing behind her waiting to help. Shonna's life turned for the worst when Ida passed away. She then decided she was going to become everything her grandmother wanted her to be. One day in art class Shonna created something very "unique", something uncommon among artists. A collage with magazine bits torn and glued together. Mrs. Vance saw something talented in what Shonna created. So she decided to call the Knoxville Museum of Art. Shonna won first place in "Collage" in a piece of art called "Pink Rose". Other competetions came and Shonna took first place in all. Keep Knoxville Beautiful is another award she recieved after drawing a scene in color pencils of a flag with Knoxville in it. "All I have to say about all of my acomplishments, is I am not finished Yet! My desire to create art will never end. Art is the purpose for being who I am" --Shonna Nelson--
