At low tide, the Thames estuary at Leigh-on-Sea in Essex is littered with stranded boats and people searching among the mudflats for shells and other 'treasures' left by the retreating waters. This painting captures the scene in early autumn on an unusually bright and warm day for that time of year.
This was painted in acrylics on stretched canvas. The sides of the canvas have been painted, so it does not necessarily need framing.
Please note: Depending on the setting of your monitor, the colours may appear slightly different from those of the original painting. Also you must appreciate that it is impossible to convey all the subtleties of texture, tone and hue of the original work in a digital photograph.

I have always liked to draw and paint, but didn't take it up seriously until I was in my early 30's. I attended a local evening class and was very lucky to find a very good and patient teacher. I joined a couple of local art groups and gradually developed my style and interests.

In my work I paint landscapes and seascapes in pastels, acrylics and watercolour. Through the medium of my art, I try to express the particular mood or feeling that these subjects evoke. I have a love of coastal areas particularly the Suffolk coast and I enjoy the challenge of capturing the light and atmosphere of that part of the country. I work mostly from sketches and photographs but I also like to paint in the landscape itself.I am constantly revising and looking at fresh approaches to the way I work.

At the moment I paint in my spare time, but I hope one day to be able to work at my art full time. Presenting and selling my work online is part of this plan. It gives me a chance to show my work to a wide audience, who hopefully will like it enough to buy it. (By the way, a big thank you to all those who have bought my work so far. It is very encouraging to me when I sell a piece of work.)

Profile Thanks for the comments David. Actually a reviewer on another site commented on the 'Whistler feel' to the painting.
