“My work is a mediation between the spiritual and the metaphysical. Reality is not as concrete as we all would like to think, this is one of the issues I deal with in my art. The art I create is part of a visual vocabulary, a constantly evolving personal language. I hope that the realization and bringing to life of my work that is non-mimetic and breaks from the illusion of representation and literal convention. I try to bring forth the indecipherable images, in my mind, into our shared reality.

"Hedgehog" linocut, serigraph on kitikata 16"x20" 2001. Edition of 8

"Hedgehog" a relief and serigraph print was inspired in a large part by Japanese ukiyo-e, woodblock prints as well as contemporary Japanese figurative and decorative art. I did not really aim to portray a hedgehog as such, but it struck me the resemblance by the hairlike strokes made by the uncarved slivers in the linoblock. This is one of my favorite works, it differs from most of my work in terms of style, however I found the process came about organically. The original black and white image I painted in sumi-e ink with bamboo brushes. Then I made a xerox and used that to carve the primary line image into linoleum block. The silkscreened areas of color seemed to fill the negative space and separate the different parts of the "hedgehog's "anatomy".
