Inspired by 19th century American painting, this pastel drawing of an oil tanker on the Chesapeake Bay presents a subtle and sublime environmental message.
ARTISTS STATEMENT: Since the 1970s my sculpture and drawings have been based on interpretive incorporation of the human presence within the American landscape, acknowledging an artistic legacy that spans over one hundred fifty years of American aesthetics. For the past three years I have concentrated on Minimalist-based drawings and works on paper, inspired by where I am and where I have been. In my art, I seek to produce a simple, subtle, and sublime presentation of the environment and atmosphere of a particular place.RECENT EXHIBITIONS AND COMMISSIONSFive Drawings- commission for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Collegeville, PA, 2003Solo Exhibition, Drawings and Works on Paper, The Grand Opera House, Wilmington, DE, 2003Birds I View public art commission, Prince Georges County, MD 2003Beach Birds public art commission, Ocean City, MD 2003Solo Exhibition of Drawings, Annmarie Gardens Gallery, Solomons, MD, 2002Party Animals public art commission, Washington, DC, 2002Disneyhole public conceptual art project, Philadelphia, PA 2002Fish Out of Water public art commission, Baltimore, MD, 2001Musikfest 99, Bethlehem, PA, painted mural (8X4) and visiting artist, 1999Artscape 98, Baltimore Festival for the Arts, site specific sculpture, 1998ArtlinksBaltimore, public art commission, Baltimore, MD, 1996Artscape '95, Baltimore Arts Festival, site specific sculpture, 1995Finalist, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, bas-relief sculpture public art proposal, 1995Commission, mural (25'X11') for Town of North Beach, MD.
