A dynamic oil painter, L. Risor chooses to portray strikingly uplifting subjects reflective of life's inspiration & majesty hoping to evoke happy optimistic emotions, proven to motivate a viewer to smile.
"One of the greatest feelings of accomplishment is seeing the magic of a face light up like a star with an astounding smile!" according to enthusiastic L. Risor.
L. Risor, born in Marfa, Texas, amid the mysterious 'Marfa Lights', Risor began painting as a young child, after moving to Pecos where bedridden due to rheumatic fever, Risor's mother would help to fill the many weeks and later years of illness with art and craft projects. Projects distracted Risor from pain and discomfort, cultivating a positive sense of well being while nurturing a passion for art which flourished over the years.
After moving to Colleyville, Texas Risor's seventh grade history teacher, Heather White, as luck would have it, was also Risor's art teacher. White recognized and helped L. Risor appreciate and hone natural artistic talent rather than dwell on being falsely labeled as - 'stupid' while growing up with physical & academic shortcomings due to dyslexia & asthma related oxygen deprivation. This sensational art teacher, & years later, renowned artist, friends, and mentors - Jack White & his acclaimed artist wife, Mikki - three great Whites - were the positive catalyst influential in Risor rising as an accomplished artist!
"In highschool I was lucky to have taken a three year course in Printing & Graphics which landed me fun jobs at The Drawing Board in Dallas, at Tandy/Radio Shack in Fort Worth, and at New Woman Magazine before the company moved back to Florida after an unusually harsh Texas winter. I began freelance work as a fine artist and for over 30 years I have more than enjoyed painting for my living. I passionately love my job. Everything I do - I do with loyalty, passion & dedication. To meet people & feel good about myself & life in general, and to give back for some of the blessings I have recieved, I recently took a nursing course and began work in health care to be able to assist others in need.
There IS more to life than painting pretty pictures!"
Risor enjoys painting nature, animals, trompe l oeil, faux finishes, garden scenes and wildlife but is best known and commissioned most to paint fantastic fun feline portraits.
