Artist: Michelle Montague

About the Artist:
Michelle Montague was born in Toronto; however she spent much of her childhood living in Edmonton Alberta then later in Windsor, Ontario, where she spent much of her formative years developing her craft as an artist and her mind as a visionary transforming her immediate surroundings into a world existing on several phases of “realities”. Her works combine the influences of abstract and expressionism art through the artistic medium of drawing and painting to depict compelling stories of the otherworld. Since returning to Toronto she has graduated in Marketing Management at Centennial College earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts at Ontario College of Art & Design and has exhibited works in partnership with the Canadian Human Rights Commission and several select galleries.
Artist Statement:
The focus of my work often involves manipulation of everyday, realistic landscapes and their transformation into parallel environments. Once transformed, these pieces become timeless monuments, losing any historical reference they might have had previously. They are non-linear snapshots of reality, only concerned with the moment at hand. Through this imagery my objective is to further consider the interconnections between nature and the built environments - nature as something that is forged by our living planet, and the built environments as manufactured by humans and technology.
