Art and animals have always been a big part of my life. I could not imagine what life would be like without the "creative out" I get from drawing, and the enjoyment of immortalizing some of God's most magnificent creatures. I love everything about them both! I guess you could say it's my way of honoring God and his wonderful animal kingdom.
I happen to specialize in Pen and Ink Pointillism, which is not widely practiced and if you know exactly what it is, then you also know why it isn't! This technique involves drawing a picture entirely with dots. This is not a technique for the impatient, but for me, a labor of love. I found early in my (ever evolving) art "learning", that I had a knack for this medium and it seemed to come very natural for me. Pointillism gave me the ability to get the detail I wanted on each of the animals I did. I could make them look like photographs and I thought that was cool!
I work well with other mediums as well, mostly anything black and white, such as graphite, scratchboard, charcoals, etc. I seem to do much better when color is not involved. However, I have started to work more with chalk pastels and color pencil and seem to be getting the hang of them, little by little. I still love the drama and intensity of Black and White mediums though.
I do have one more thing...I strongly encourage people to be involved with the Arts in your communities and schools. It is extremely important to keep our young people exposed to these "creative outs", whether it is in dance, music, visual arts or whatever. Had it not been for a very special 10th grade art teacher I had in public school, I would have never learned about pointillism and many other intriguing art forms. Learn about the Arts, teach the Arts, or just support the Arts in any way you can, you will not regret it!
Thanks
