Artist: Neil Shaw

Neil is a former Deputy Sheriff with over 20 years experience. He spent over 10 years specializing in forensic art; hand-drawing criminal suspects from witness descriptions. He trained at Scottsdale Art School and at the FBI Academy, in Quantico, Virginia where he studied forensic art and sculpture.
As a child, and growing up, Neil had always been artistic. He immersed himself in artwork from a very early age and is largely self-taught. He entered into law enforcement in the late 70's where that took priority. Strangely, police work brought him back to art via the forensic art field. Forensic art eventually led to fine pencil portraits. Neil's Portraits are on display at The Stokes Gallery in Pacific Grove, Ca.
In Neil’s earlier years, he was a Humane Officer with the SPCA of Monterey County where, among other duties, he performed cruelty investigations, wildlife and marine mammal rescue, at Monterey Bay. This gave him his appreciation and respect of these amazing creatures. This connection with marine mammals has never left him. His experience and admiration for marine life manifests itself in Neil’s paintings.
It is Neil’s hope that his art can give the collector the same type of appreciation for the majesty of sea life and the tropics. Many of Neil’s paintings tend to convey a lighthearted and whimsical view of the tropical setting.
