PRESS RELEASE
TITLE: Abstract and Expressionist Artwork by Ramon Lapayese: A Retrospective Exhibition
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Madrid, Feb/21/2005

Ramon Lapayese: Retrospective Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture
Annta Gallery, Madrid
From March, 10 to April, 02, 2005

Annta Gallery, a Contemporary and Fine Arts Gallery in Madrid, Spain is opening this awaited Exhibition by Abstractionist and Expressionist Artist Ramon Lapayese (Madrid, 1928 - Miami, 1994).

It is the first time this noted and unique artwork is exhibited after his author's death. The exhibition includes pieces from different ages and tendencies in the artistic production of Lapayese: oil paintings on canvas and paper, also sculpture in bronze and wood. Abstract paintings during his time in Paris and his convincing look on Bullfight Scenes or Tauromaquia outstand in the show.

Plastic artist Ramon Lapayese (Madrid, 1928-Miami, FLA 1994), expressed his creativity through painting, sculpture, prints, mixed-media, pottery, and pencil and ink drawings. Ramon Lapayese featured more than 150 group shows and 70 solo shows. His artwork can be seen in public and private collections at Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Japan, Morocco...

Among others, here is what some critics said about Ramon Lapayese artwork:
"Lapayese displays a figurative expressionist style that is personal, strong and interpretive. Emphasizing the composition, on the canvas he sometimes paints Spanish subjects of bullfighters or guitar players, other times stylized fish and cats, almost primitive..."J. Norval, New York, 1961

"Only eight of his paintings at this show depict the bullfight. Even Picasso proves to be conventional. Nobody has learned to paint the game between man and animal like R. Lapayese has." K. F. Hannoversche Rundschau, 1966
