Blade Runner, though violent, was an exceptional example of well adapted Sci-Fi that rose to the level of art. There wasn't another film quite as daring since 2001. While seen by just about everyone now, it was a total failure at the box office back during its original release in the early 1980's. I kind of liked the first AVP film, though fantasy isn't my favorite genre (in fact I prefer psychological thrillers like the Others or the sixth Sense, but that's just me). Wonder how long it will take people to figure out that the monsters in these films come straight out of us. They simply reflect the mass unconciousness and there is money to be made from our collective illness as it were. Films like Contact just don't play to the masses. Sad actually.
