I am an Australian portrait artist who came to art by circumstance rather than learning. Coming from an artist family our roots in music - classical/liturgical,  voice, piano and strings. But illness took me on a different path were I needed to find something that didn't require the physical aspects of performing. So I took to drawing and painting about 13 years ago, although now I mostly draw. Like with anything the beginning is a bit shaky, then you sharpen,, get better tools and lots of practice, patience and learn, learn and learn. As the years went by and my illness worsened Art became my meditation, relaxation, and pleasure.
I love the whole process of starting with a photo and a blank page. Line by line getting the overall likeness, after building the 'foundations' up, the fun begins- adding detail, light, shade, expressions until it's finished. Then showing the work to the client getting there feedback - it's so rewarding when it sits right for both the artist and the client.
I work with graphite, colour pencils and pastel on paper. Along with human portraiture I also draw our best friend pets, service dogs and wildlife portraits as well as.
