Seller Comments...
Artist: Joseph Imhof (1871-1955)

Title: Taos Pueblo Women.
Date circa: 1940.
Media: Charcoal on paper.
Signed, lower right, Jos. A. Imhof Taos, N.M.
Dimensions of paper: 21 x 16 inches (533 x 406 mm). The charcoal drawing has been framed and archivally matted: 28 1/4 x 23 1/2 inches (711 x 596 mm).

Excellent condition. Drawn full sheet on white laid paper using black and brown charcoals. A beautifully drawn double portrait of two Taos Pueblo women by Taos, New Mexico, artist Joseph Imhof. Perhaps best known as a graphic artist, Imhof was an accomplished artist in a variety of mediums, as evidenced by this drawing. A good general reference on Imhof, his life, and his art, is Joseph Imhof: Artist of the Pueblos by Reily and Enix (1998).
