Bartlett’s Easel paintings follow in the tradition of the late 19th and. early 20th century American landscape (coastal) and figurative painters. His growing up near and sailing on Long Island Sound and Narragansett Bay makes maritime and coastal views a natural subject. As well, like many young boys on the Bay he had a skiff and Quohogged, thus an interest in depicting people at work has become material for some of his pictures.
