One of a series of pieces based on photographs of Bath and its surroundings. In this case a night scene of Bath Abbey (1499-1503 on the site of a huge Norman Abbey of 1120-1161, viewed from the South West. The Abby and its predecessor are both built over a previous Saxon church where, in 959 Edgar, who had united the kindoms of Mercia and and Wessex, was crowned as the first king of all England by Archbishop Dunstan of Cantebury.
