This large eagle is widely considered as one of the best sculpures of a bird of prey. Because it is signed Moigniez in the bronze, it is commonly attributed to the 19th Century French sculptor J Moigniez. Most people are surprised to learn, therefore, that this piece was actually sculpted by American artist M.Turner in the late 1960's. An art dealer took it upon himself to add the Moigniez signature to boost early sales of the piece. Turner, in fact, created most of the bronzes that contributed to building Moigniez's worldwide reputation as a master of the animal genre. The eagle is mounted onto a marble base, stands 31.5 high by 18.5 wide, and is signed J Moigniez in the bronze.
