I am the oldest son of a captain, a shipmaster. I was born and brought up in Klaipeda, a port city in Lithuania. I learned about the sea from books and movies as well as the songs and stories I was told by my grandfather.

My father got furious when I said I was going to follow in his footsteps and enter the Nautical College. Thus I happened to become a painter. However, I do not condemn him for this. Moreover, I feel grateful.
