Seller Comments...
Eugenijus Gricius (born 1929 m.) is a Lithuanian emigrant living in Great Britain. His first exhibition was organized in London, in 1961. Later on numerous expositions were held in England, as well. Although according to painter‘s niece Mrs. Liucija Paškevičienė, “All his life Gricius nourished two big dreams – to travel by boat around the world and to organize exhibition of his paintings in homeland“. He even managed to build a ship himself but family circumstances didn‘t allow him to go on a journey. On the other hand he succeeded in opening several expositions in Lithuania.

Eugenijus left Lithuania during World War II. He studied art in England and worked as a master of heraldry. He was able to contact his Lithuanian relatives only in 1980.

‘His works are dominated by the reflections of art trends from the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century. There are lots of romantic landscapes. There you can spot bridges which reflections in the water are made with impressionistic strokes. They remind works of French artists from the end of 19th century which provoked revolution at that time. Other landscapes by Gricius evoke early attempts to depict visible reality not following the classical principles of perspective. The abandonment of these principles at the beginning of the 20th century produced one of the most famous avant-garde art trends – cubism.
