Seller Comments...
I carved this stylized fish hook in the Maori Style. This design is intended to honor the fishermen's prey, to give good luck to the wearer. It is sculpted from a beautiful piece of Fossilized Walrus Tusk, several thousand years old. When worn the piece will slowly aquire a mellow translucence, deepening the contrasting colors. Truly one of a kind. It is the only Ivory fishook I have ever created.

Fossil Ivory is aquired when the glaciers melt. Sometimes it is found on the ground at the base of these rivers of ice, sometimes it washes up on the seashore. I travel to Tuscon, AZ each year and purchase these materials at the worlds largest gem and mineral show, from respected experts who collect them in Alaska. These materials are traded and sold without restrictions within the United States. This piece requires no special care and is very stable.
