Nicole Carvajal was born in 1948 in Santiago, Chile. She had her professional education at several places. She started at the Facultad de Bellas Artes, Universidad de Chile (1970-1972) where her teacher Rodolfo Opazo introduced her to the world of Dada, surrealism and poetry in general. From 1973-1974 she studied anatomy at the Academia San Marco in Florence, Italy. At the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, Holland she finished her studies in 1979. There she was a pupil of Herman Gordijn.
